Even though charter schools account for 5.5% of the national public school population, 17% have received recognition by Newsweek as a top 100 public high school. Number 61 on the list is Colorado's Peak to Peak Charter School in Lafayette.
According to the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, charter schools are overrepresented in the list due to a greater amount of accountability and innovation.
